Cerebral vascular accidents account for a large amount of death and disability annually across the world.  With advancing medicine, more individuals are surviving stroke than ever.  As rehabilitation professionals, it is our responsibility to provide these individuals with the most evidence-based approach to treatment to maximize functional recovery.  The goal of this course is to provide a comprehensive approach to stroke management based on functional presentation.  In addition, we will review medical, pharmacological, and anatomical characteristics in stroke management to develop a collaborative and thorough approach to treatment.

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

    • Describe incidence, prevalence, and characteristics of individuals who suffer from stroke
    • Apply understanding of neuro anatomy to functional exam and treatment planning
    • Integrate task analysis into functional examination and treatment planning
    • Develop appropriate evidence based treatment utilizing the principles of neuroplasticity through case based learning
    • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive patient care plan
    • Discuss secondary risks for stroke survivors and professional role in intervention
