Neurologic Physical Therapy
Overview:
As a world-class organization on the cutting edge of evidence-based practice and professional development, the Brooks IHL Neurologic Residency program prepares its residents to educate and care for complex neurologic populations. This program is one year in length and consists of three components that include didactic/psychomotor classes, clinical mentoring and supervision, and directed learning activities. Case study presentations prepare the resident for participation in professional conferences and potential submission for publication. In addition, residents from all of the Brooks IHL residency programs comprehensively participate in foundational courses, allowing for development of professional relationships with colleagues of various specialty practice areas.
Currently, we offer two Neurologic Physical Therapy Residencies, one located in Jacksonville, Florida and the other located in Daytona Beach, Florida. Both programs include the same high quality curriculum and faculty however vary in practice settings and rotations.
The residents in Jacksonville, will rotate through five practice settings. In the Brooks Rehabilitation Inpatient Rehab Facility residents will rotate through the Brain Injury, Stroke, and Spinal Cord Injury floors. They will also spend time in our outpatient and skilled nursing settings.
The residents in Daytona will gain experience treating a wide variety of patients with neurologic conditions as therapists practicing at the Halifax Health/Brooks Rehabilitation Center for Inpatient Rehabilitation as well as our outpatient multi-disciplinary clinic.

The Brooks Neurologic Residency Programs in Jacksonville and Daytona Beach, FL are accredited by the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency & Fellowship Education (ABPTRFE).

Physical Therapy Board Certification
The Neurologic Residency Program will prepare physical therapists with the knowledge and skills needed to sit for the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) board certification exam in neurology (NCS).

Program Details
Curriculum
The program curriculum covers everything from advanced neurology practice and clinical problem solving to management and educational theory.
• The residency will be founded on The Five Pillars.
• The residents will participate in combinations of traditional coursework, directed learning activities, and clinical mentoring.
• Residents will serve as Brooks Rehabilitation staff for the course of the training.
• Upon graduation, the residents will serve as clinical leaders and change agents for the profession.
Admission Requirements
Applicants to the Brooks Neurologic Residency Program must:
• Must graduate from a CAPTE accredited PT program

• Must obtain a FL PT license or temporary license by the 2nd Friday in June
• Must meet all eligibility requirements to be employed as a practicing Physical Therapist within Brooks Rehabilitation
• Must demonstrate membership within the APTA
• Applications open from October 1, 2024 – January 12, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Program begins July 2025. An applicant can apply to one or both of these programs through RF-PTCAS.
*Residents accepted into the Neurologic PT Program must commit to 1-year of employment with Brooks Rehabilitation after graduation from the program, or pay $15,000 tuition.
