The Speech Therapy Program at Brooks Rehabilitation offers a 4 month (40 hours/week) intensive externship for students who have completed their graduate level coursework in speech therapy at a university accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA). Students will have the opportunity to serve diverse populations throughout the Brooks system within different settings. Students will learn and utilize evidence-based assessment and treatment techniques and learn to use the latest technology. Additionally, students will observe and participate in individual and group sessions with patients, residents, and clients depending upon the clinical setting. Various opportunities for collaboration with other disciplines (such as physical, occupational, and music therapists) will be offered throughout the course of the externship. The goal of the externship is to immerse students in daily routines that affords them the opportunity to work with highly skilled professionals in the field.
Externship candidates are selected on the basis of their academic record and particular interest in the communicative disorder specialty areas of training. Appointments for an in-person interview are scheduled after the online application and resume are reviewed. Students will be expected to arrange and cover the costs of housing, transportation, travel, and health insurance.
